My skill is currently 168, should i make Minotaur Hero's Brew or Faydwer shaker then Brew.

Faydwer shaker combine elven wine, gnomish spirits, dwarven ale, mead (failure yields cask + 4 bottles, success yields 1 shaker and 4 bottles) cask yeilds 1, triv @ 188

elven wine $0.015
gnomish spirits $0.068
dwarven ale $0.068
mead $0.052
cask $0.031
-----------------------------------
total $0.234

plus the sell back of 4 bottles, my server is down, so i can't put an exact value on it.

Minotaur Hero's Brew combine 3 malt, yeast, 2 flask water, 2 short beer (success yields 1 brew and 2 empty bottles, failure yields 1 cask and 2 empty bottles) cask, yeilds 1, triv @ 248

malt $0.016
malt $0.016
malt $0.016
yeast $0.016
flask water $0.010
flask water $0.010
short beer $0.016
short beer $0.016
cask $0.031
-----------------------------------
total $0.157

plus sell back of 2 bottles.

the trade off for doing the shakers first would be more success to sell back, but if i have to gather items in multiple zones, that would suck.

I know that the brew can be done in Sh without having to leave (have to run all over).

the worse part is they both require casks, so pack space is somewhat limited. The brew uses 8 items in it(other than casks, wher the shaker only uses 4. I would have to make many more trips to vendor to make the brew, just to buy casks.

there also that rumor that the further away from triv, the less chance of a skill up. So would that make a major difference? or am i at the mercy of the RNG?

At 202 skill in Brewing atm, went from 151-202 On Mino Hero brewm easy to make... Planning to do it to 248 and then Kaladim cons to 250 :)

You will fail alot at first, but doesnt really matter, a stack of Minos sells for around 2pp, so not even worth selling :)

*EDIT* A stack off bottles sell for 1gp, so i just drop em on the ground, not worth selling

I used freeport for my Mino Brews.. Then again, this was right after luclin came out. God, I don't even remember what I did to get to 200, but I started mino brew at 200, took me 29 hours on/off of combining to get my 250. (Mino to 248, and 3 tainted ava ales to 250.. this was before constitutionals/etc)

I would recommend doing the Shakers first, as you can find all the components in buildings next door to one another in East Freeport, or in a single building in Highpass. The nine-item nightmare that is MHB's is to be avoided as much as possible. It's cheap, it's easy, but it's hard on the wrists...

Good luck

I agree with dodging it Sordie...

Go to EFP, and make shakers, all really close together, gets you quickly to 188.

You'll have plenty of time to enjoy the mino brew days, hehe.

For mino brew, I'd buy enough for 80 combines...

12 Malts,
4 yeast
8 short beer
8 water

32 inventory slots

Then you can buy unstackable casks... I would empty 5 10 slot backpacks, (helped being a tailor, 2 of the backpacks I'd sell after brewing, and remake next time I needed to brew... can't wait for GM trophy) and only be able to buy 18 casks, then go back and forth... so you may want a barrel very close to a cask seller.

If you're stopping at 200, you should be able to do it in about 400 combines from 188.

Good luck :).

Which factions are the vendors in EFP on, and how close do the guards get to the relevant merchants? I've helped take Lucan down twice, so this is an important issue for me...
I thought I'd found the sweet spot when I noticed the Fungus Grove supplies in the listing on the main site, but unfortunately, casks aren't available in that zone.
:(

Merchants have their own faction, I thought it was simply merchants of FP, but I would have to check.

I didn't see any guards when doing my shakers, but I was mainly inside, and wouldn't have taken any notice of the ones patrolling outside.

A few people have suggested HHP, a building there seems to have everything you need to make them and few people are KoS to those merchants.

Got bored, checked Illia's Everquest bestiary for factions in EFP...

Interestingly enough, most of the merchants are listed as monster on their site, with no factions listed.

Guess they got lazy.

The ones that show as 'merchant' are listed under:

Carson McCabe
Coalition of Trade Folk
Coalition of Tradefolk Underground
Corrupt Qeynos Guards
Freeport Militia

I Think that means they wont trade with you if you've been killing guards, but seeing as how poorly the site did this zone... it may just be completely off.

Both Coalition of Tradesfolk Illegal and Freeport Militia get bottomed out fairly quickly with Lucan kills. I'm fairly certain that the head bartender at the Seafarer's Roost is on Illegal, but unfortunately, I'm not certain about the rest.
Not sure right now if I'll look into EFP, or if I'll find another location to handle it all.

Do the shakers first. Items that have a close trivial versus your current skill will give quicker skillups, and fail less so you will have more to sell back to the vendors.

I would suggest checking out the brewing merchant in Halas. I seem to remember reading a very long thread about which zone it was best to brew in, in which someone posted that you could do all your brewing of Minotaur Hero's Brew in one room. I read this after reaching 199 brewing with Minotaur Brew in Kaladim. So I can’t speak from first hand knowledge. But it’s still worth checking out. Now that my baking is over 200, I may go Halas and see about getting that last point.

Faydwar shakers can be made easily in EFP. That is the best place IMO.
You buy the imported wines at the Import shop, then go next store to Trader's Holiday to buy the mead and the casks. There's a brew barrel right in Trader's Holiday, so even if you only have room for a few casks, it's easy to step back to the merchant.

The mercants in question are NOT KOS if you have killed Lucan. Unfortunately, to use the area in peace I first had to kill about 6 guards... moving from Trader's Holiday to the Import store I got agroed. I'm a paladin tho and don't have an easy source of unlimited invis.

If you are interested in another option ...

Go to Shadeweavers Thicket. There is a ground spawn there called Payala Fruit. Combine the fruit and a flask of water in a brew barrel. Will take you to trivial of 187.
It sells back well to vendors and sometimes to those who are making Faithstones/Spiritstones.
The only thing you've invested is a little time to pick up the fruit and the cost of water.

Then you can brew up some Minotaur Hero's brew.

If you choose to do MHB's, in Halas, you can do it all in one room. To the left of the brew barrel and right (about 2 steps if that) are the merchants that sell ALL the ingredients.

The room is marked number 10 I think on the EQ Atlas map, I think and I am pretty sure its called McDonald's Fine Cider. Anyways once you get there you will work it out easy :).

Its a right pain with all the ingredients, but doable...

Thank you Bennan, that's the info i was looking for. Since i spend a bit of time in the genberal area working on my smithing, this help tremendously.

Personally I'm doing the minotaur hero brew because I'm bound in the plane of knowledge at the vendor for brewing ingredients then use my faithstone to get me to kaladim where I pick up the rest. Working on other tradeskills gives me something to do while I'm waiting for the enchanter to med up enough to enchant more brellium for me to combine.

I went from 160-180 in the time it took me to imbue enough brellium to make 20 sheets.

I made Mino Brew to 183. I happened to be dinking around Sanctus Seru when I stumbled over their brewery...lo and behold, two vendors in the same building, standing right next to each other, had all the parts you need to make the shakers. Brew barrel is there too.

I set aside everything else and in 2 stacks of easy combines, got 188 and got ground to a halt again. I almost cried when I realized there was a place I could have been going to do shakers.

My point is, do the shakers. At 5 items, you get to do almost twice as many combines in the same amount of time as the 9 item Mino. If you don't care about fast, and are dirt poor, then sure, do Mino...but I will never recommend it again.

The only bad thing about doing shakers in Seru is if you have ever hunted there for key quests, you may be KoS with various factions. I had only hunted a little, and I was fine. I will regret forever doing Mino brew for 20 points when I could have done shakers.

Man I wish it were so. I spent about 130 combines to get to 188, about 340 combines to get to 189, 20 combines or so to 190 and working on 120 combines with no increase to 191 yet :)[/list]

01-22-2003, 12:43 PM
about 340 combines to get to 189

Wow.. I went to 242 and I don't think it ever took more than 120 combines for a skill-up.

May be wrong as I don't watch the skill ups while I tradeskill, but I think only once or twice did I not have a higher skill after a set of 80 combines.

I think you may need some int/wis, mine was minimum 230.

Yes, very convenient... BUT
The vendors despawn and respawn on a 10min? schedule.
So you can't keep working continously in there but will have to wait for them to return quite often.

If you have good CoV faction, the easiest place in the universe to make shakers is in Skyshrine, merchants and brew barrel all in one room on the way to the bank.

Not exactly.

The merchants are in one room and the barrel is in the room behind them. But you're right, I'm doing Faydwer Shakers now in Skyshrine.

I found that doing Minotaur Hero Brew is easiest in Firiona Vie for the people who have the faction. Water is sold in a shop not far from the brew barrel, everything else is right there with the brew barrel. The vendor selling casks is so close to the barrel you don't even have to move from the barrel to restock on them.
I was 200 brewing for a long time, but this weekend I finally got around to putting down 3aa. Hero Brews took me to 248 in a few hours, after which I did 30 some champagne combines to 250.

I did the Hero's Brew. I parked myself in Thurgadin because everything you need is real close to each other. I actually went from a skill of 0 to 248 in 2 nights making only Hero's Brews. Very boring indeed, but I got it up there to start attempting my GM combines.

If you have the faction, in FV you can get everything for minotaur brew in one room other than the water which is a short walk away. With PoP FV is now easy to get to.
Looks like we posted simultaneously. :D

Mino brews = the devil

I had to take a break from them, I dont have to tell you the pain in the ye-olde 9 combine mino brew arrrgh.

I am monk and even with c3 and some int gear I can only get to 143 int so its a long haul for me.

Sigwulf/Talisker thanks for the heads up to go to FV, I was doing them in Thurg and had to run around to re stock this should help some, every little bit helps.
