View Full Version : Geerlok & Trophy: should I bother going to 250 skill?

Greetings. I'm working pottery in an effort to begin making some of the PoP focus items for my guild. My understanding is that a geerlok and trophy would give you a +10 percent modifier to skill, allowing me to hit the cap on skill of 252 by having a 230 pottery skill.
Can anyone comment on this? Any idea on the kind of success rate I might expect on say Ceramic Gavel of Justice by having a 230-ish skill and using geerlok + trophy?
Thanks in advance !

May as well get a trophy anyway - it's a first rate CHR/INT/WIS item, doubles as a gearlock, can go into primary, secondary or ranged (ie/VERY flexable) and you get a free 10 slot, giant size, 100% weight reduction bag as well as the ability to summon an unlimited number of no rent ones.

It also fit into the ammo slot. Course you dont get the stats from the ammo slot. But for me its a great place to store it.

Not only do modifiers not stack, but it is very likely that the skill cap is no longer 252 with PoP. They fixed resists and stats to go over 252 so if they also fixed trade skills then getting 250 + modifier will yeild a much higher rate of success.

There has been absolutely no evidence that a modified skill over 252 has been allowed. In any case, on a coding level it would be silly to require more than 1 byte of data unless there is a plan to permit (unmodified) skill levels over 250 which sadly they have not even hinted at.

240 + 5% = 252
Ok, so stop _worrying_ about skill-ups at 240; you'll still hit 250 eventually from doing 250+ combines for self/friends/plat.

Well yeah, but you might get tired of having people tell you that you aren't a grandmaster (officially). :P My trophy gave me the actual 250 skill while I sat at 240, and 242, and 243 but.... not the respect. ;)

If it takes actually getting to 250 to get the respect of being a grandmaster then you are looking to get respect from the wrong people. If being 240 + 5% modifier is the same effective skill, what's the difference. Wait, 240 + 5% is higher skill than 250 raw.
Maybe you should rethink who you are trying to gain the respect from.
Also, who can tell if you are 240 or 250 besides yourself?
