can anyone post a list or link to which "old world pelts" can be used in making vials?
i'm relatively new, so i don't quite know what is meant by OLD WORLD.
i know that mq bear/wolf/cat pelts and zombie skins work
what about lion skins, ulthork skins, gnolls skins/scalps?
please list the skin/pelts you know work ("know" means you've used in a successfull combine)
what about mammath calf pelts? dire wolf skins, and other nonstackable pelts/skins?

ok, gotta ask, it lists LQ wolf as being able to be used, can anyone confirm this?
i was under the impression that LQ WAS NOT usable.

Wouldn't a better question be, "Why would you ever use a LQ Wolf pelt to make a vial?" :)
If you have a large supply, turn 'em into leather paddings.. sell those for quite a bit more than a vial would sell.. Then either 1) Buy vials from a vendor with the profits or 2) Buy 10x other skins for the pottery skillups.
It's kinda like asking "How many dough does a dragon egg make?" :) Maybe interesting trivia, but hardly a worthy use for a dragon egg.

Ok here is what I know for Posin vials and pelts.
ALL Quality, named pelts that stack, Skin of all types including lion, puma and thick grizzly skins.
What will not work, Runied of any type, All the new newbiee err lowbiee quest skins/pelts. All non stacking pelts, skins or hides, All kunark, Velious, Luclin, and PoP skins, hides, pelts. etc.

excuse me but isn't Polar bear skin a newbiee err lowbiee quest skin? and the list states it'll work as well.
my question about the LQ wolf is because i farm wolves for the meat occasionally (halas pies), so if i got lq wolf pelts, i could do as you suggest, or i could use them in vials. It would all be dependant on time available. I'm not one of those "stay in trader modes all the time" types.

He means stuff for the new newbie armor sets, like armadillo hides and moutain lion scalps. Old quest junk like polar bear and shadow wolf works fine (mostly). I go by age, personally, any pelt that was around at release has a good chance of being usable for vials.

I know that black wolf, puma, and coyote skins (pelts) all work.
I haven't tried mountain lion or LQ coyote skins yet.

Grizzly bear skins definately do not work :(
so then the ONLY purpose for them is to make the alchemy bags for shamen.
if you can find other uses, let us know.

I found this in one of Xanthe's guides
Most pelts can be used for this, as long as they are NOT Ruined, ie. You can use a Low Quality Cat Pelt, but not a Ruined Cat pelt. Puma Skins work, as do Black Wolf Skins and Zombie Skins (these stack, which can save a lot of room). Lion Skins DON’T work, and neither do Snake Skins or Shadow Wolf Pelts.. Up until now the new Velious Pelts such as Cougar, Dire Wolf, Kodiak etc don’t work either, but I shall do more testing with these to see if it has changed since I last checked.
Not sure if that's all you need. Usually a run from Freeport to the other side of the commonlands hitting all the vendors gives me enough puma skins, wolf skins, zombie skins, and quality pelts to make a decent size run. Anyway, some of Xanthe's guides are rather helpful.

No, you use the new Thick Grizzly bear skins for the shaman alchemy bags. I think the regular Grizzly bear skins are now used in one of the new Freeport newbie armor quests (but don't quote me on that :) )

Been a bit since I played with it, but LQ cat pelts never worked with pottery.
LQ wolf/bear always did though.
I suspect this is because LQ cat pelts never really existed until the patch that allowed pelts to get downgraded via the skinning knife. Then further with the introduction of Stonebrunt. They don't actually drop anywhere else (old world).
Mind you, they may have finally fixed this...

Thick[/i] Grizzly bear skins for the shaman alchemy bags. I think the regular Grizzly bear skins are now used in one of the new Freeport newbie armor quests (but don't quote me on that :) )
Actually the old "Grizzly Bear Skin" has been renamed to "Thick Grizzly Bear Skin". It does combine for the Alchemy bad and it *can* be used to potter vials.

Not a name change — Grizzly Bear Skins still exist. They are used in the Freeport newbie bard Songweavers Platemail Greaves quest armor.
I have no idea why SoE decided to add the Thick Grizzly Bear Skin and change the bearskin bag recipe instead of just using the new Thick Grizzly Bear Skin for the newbie bard quest armor.
And I can confirm that the TGBS works for poison vials.

Here's what I have for pelts that work with poison vials:
1485 - LQ wolf skin
4841 - MQ wolf skin
4842 - HQ wolf skin
3758 - white wolf skin
4843 - mist wolf pelt
1452 - black wolf skin
4844 - MQ cat pelt
2119 - HQ cat pelt
4845 - MQ lion skin
2878 - HQ lion skin
4846 - puma skin
1373 - LQ bear skin
1484 - MQ bear skin
1356 - HQ bear skin
3759 - polar bear skin
2117 - thick grizzly bear skin
1551 - zombie skin
The story on the thick grizzly bear skins - when the Freeport newbie quests were added, they added a 0.2 wt, small sized Grizzly Bear Skin. Then, someone realized they already had a 5.0 wt, large sized Grizzly Bear Skin (the one for vials and bearskin potion bags. Very shortly after the newbie armor patch, the 5.0 wt skin was renamed to Thick Grizzly Bear Skin and is still used to make vials and potion bags.
I know this because the day of the patch, I suddenly found lots of Grizzly Bear Skins and some didn't stack. Not having room to carry them all before I could experiment to see which weight was used for vials, I guessed that the smaller ones would be for vials and destroyed the heavy ones, only to learn the next day that the name had changed.
