View Full Version : Secondary Stat for Fletching?

Good afternoon,
I was wondering if there was a secondary state associated with Fletching other than INT/WIS. I need to do this skill for the Shawl quest and my INT/WIS is low (I'm a bard). I can raise almost any other stat considerably higher, and assumed DEX would be the obvious choice for Fletching. However, I wanted to make sure. Anyone have information on this? Thank you.

FAQ's are your friend. Dex is the stat.

I always check FAQs. Perhaps yours eyes are better and you can point me to the answer to my question in the following quote from the FAQ on this board? Thanks.

FAQ: Fletching
If you have questions after reading this thread, please start a separate thread, and keep this thread for actual FAQ entries only.
Q: How do I make (Whatever)?
A: Go to www.eqtraders.com and look it up! (Also try Aoenla's Fletching Guide, linked at the Fletching recipes page. It has everything you'd want, though it takes a bit to load up.)
Q: How do I make (Some rumored, RL, or other recipe not listed)?
A: If it's not there, and it's not on the message board (Check back a couple pages to be sure), NOBODY KNOWS! Most likely it isn't implemented yet, and may never be implemented. At the very least, nobody has discovered the recipe. Feel free to post attempts and DNC messages, but please check to be sure you're not repeating somebody
Q: What's the best bow I can make?
A: Define best bow? Using it as your main battle weapon? Go for the silk string, cams, carving tools, the works. Using it to pull? Get the best Staff, but skip the fancy bits. The rough bows have a better ratio.
Q: How do I skill up?
A: Make arrows until a part trivials. Triviality depends on the most complex part, so if you're not concerned about making the best arrows in skilling up, buy the one part you're practicing on and go cheap on the rest. Arrows will take you to 202, so if you don't want to Grand-Master the skill, be careful. Compound Darkwood bows will go to 235. From there it's on to Shadewood bows and/or Condensed Element arrows.
We're still working on nailing down the trivials for the specific Shadewood bow and Condensed Element arrow combinations, but we do know that a combination of the bows and arrows will take you all the way to 250.
Q: Why should I Fletch?
A: If you want high-quality bows and arrows, fletching is for you. Also there are a few quests that use fletching. A storied and complex art it may be, but the reasons are fairly simple.
Q: I foraged up some feathers. What can I make with them?
A: Feathers have no tradeskill use at this time.
Q: If I have an illusion wood elf item, can I make the wood elven cultural fletching?
A: Illusions do NOT fool cultural tradeskill containers. Unless you are a wood elf by birth, you cannot perform wood elven cultural fletching.
Q: Whats a GM?
A: When refering to a Trade Skiller, A GM is a Grand Master in a skill. This is a player term for anyone who has taken their prefered trade skill above 200 points. Only one trade skill may be taken above 200, so choose that skill wisely! (DenMom edit: some folks prefer to use the grandmaster term only for those who have attained 250 in a given tradeskill. Either way, be very careful of that 200-skill mark, as once you reach 201, there is no way to downgrade your skill so that you may raise a different one above 200.)
Q: Can players make Velium Bows?
A: Not at this time. All Velium Bows in game are Monster Dropped, or the result of quests.
Q: What are the trivial levels for various bows?
A: Trivials are listed on the recipes page, Fletching.
Q: I foraged up a branch of sylvan oak and/or a branch of planar oak, and I know there HAS to be a recipe for them.
A: There is as of May 8! See Wood Elf cultural fletching.

In the Frequently Asked Questions Forum, there's a topic on stats and tradeskills
http://mboards.eqtraders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31
Probably would be more straightforward to add it to the faq you quoted as well.
edit: I just sent a PM suggesting that.

Fletching: skill increases for fletching are determined by INT, WIS or DEX, whichever is higher.

If you do more than one tradeskill, secondary stats are a waste of time, IMO. You may as well raise your WIS/INT.

I dissagree, secondary stats are a LOT easier to raise due to buffs. The only secondary stats that woek atm are str for smithing and dex for fletching i belive. Both easy to get huge increases through various buffs or potions without have to purchase and swap in and out int or wis modifiers. Str buffs can be cast buy druids, rangers, shaman, clerics, beastlords, enchanters, shado wknights, paladins. Dex by shaman and chanters, Int/wis chanter only.

Beastlords can also cast Dex buffs.

OK, for trades that have a secondary skill, is there any benefit to raising the secondary if you already have a primary maxxed?
I have 255 WIS and 88 DEX normally. When working on Fletching, is there any benefit to getting Boon of Garou before I do my combines? Or does just having one of the stats maxxed get you all the benefit you're going to get?
Thanks,
Tat

Only having one maxed will help ya out.

You probably need to work out a combination of items, buffs and potions to max your DEX in a price effective and practical way.
I got myself a DEX kit for 2-3K. It included among other things a Glowing Black Sword (+20 DEX for 400pp) and other items with a good DEX/PP ratio.
When it was time for fletching skill ups I prepared with a sip of Greater Cohesion (made by a friendly Shaman) and a DEX buff (provided by a friendly Chanter).
This maxed my dex at a time when I was level 30. It would have been much more expensive to max my WIS. Impossibly expensive even at that time.
The combination thing also saved me from having to find a +100 DEX buff every time. +60 DEX was enough.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

If you know any Bards, we get a 39th level song called Katta's Song of Sword Dancing, which adds about 90 DEX with the appropriate instrument. Might not be a bad idea to have one group with you on particularly long runs of tradeskills. Bards can also group for STR buffs as well between 20 and 50. It's a cheap way to get increases from a bard friend.
Lastly we can increase INT/WIS (About 14-20 points) as well with another song (Level 44).
Yes for me as a bard, getting almost ANY other stat > 230 is easier than INT/WIS :)

The same topic sited above mentioned DEX applying to Jewelcraft too.
Greymantle, you mentioned that you believe Fletching and Smithing are the only ones with secondaries working; can you go into more detail? I've been thinking about getting into JC so I can do the Prayer Shawl Quest and was VERY happy to hear the secondary for JC was DEX since I've got DEX gear for my fletching.
