  • Small find for most people, a giant WOOHOO from me...

I've been working on golden ribbons to skill up tailoring.

Which means I either have to pay anywhere from 20PP to 75PP each for the foraged items, or go get them myself.

Having recently spent 14K on one weapon and 18K on another, I have no cash left, so I'm stuck trying to forage / loot what I can (I've even pulled my 20 druid out to help with this!).

I go over to Steamfont since that seems the easiest place to get these, minos and elementals drop the spring water, plus it's foraged.

I decide to hit the windmill merchants first, since it's on the way. I see the clockwork boyer has the spring water on him, cool, shift, click buy, I get 3. Not bad.

Spend some time killing everything in sight, got about 5 brownie parts (for baking), and about 4 more spring waters.

I decided to hit the mercants outside Ak'Anon. Wouldn't you know it, I see the spring water in another merchant, shift click buy, 10!! Woohoo!

Go to another merchant, more sping waters, this is my lucky day! Shift click , 15!!!!!!!!!

I was ecstatic. After checking them all, I had probabaly bought 35-40 Spring waters, which was able to boost my tailoring up to about 152ish. (From 145). Not a bad day at all.

        Elemental and Minotaurs?

Whoo-boy. You need to be edu-macated, son.

Go to the west half of the zone, and kill Kobolds. 2-4 camps of them north of the druid rings, kobolds should be one-hit kills, and they drop the water every 3-4 kills.

I didn't know the elementals did, killed a few but it never dropped.

I wanted to do both Kobolds and Mino's (Have horse, will travel) but found the kobolds camped alot. Also wouldn't say the drop rate was that much more.

Besides, I don't mind getting the extra faction in Ak'anon

Bah.. Leave the poor newbie gnomes to the Kobols... just make a deal to buff them up if they let you have all the springwater they loot, then move over to minos....

                works for me

250 in brewing with a trophy! All other trade skills? /sigh don't ask.

                  Grats on the good find!

Last time I checked though.. kobolds didnt give faction with ak'anon? Thought they switched it 'cause of the newbie quests, but mebbie not.

I'd have to go with 'buffs for water' for newbs, proably get more that way, when they run inside and buy what they can from vendors for that sow

There is currently no faction hit whatsoever for killing any kobolds in Steamfont, except the kobold missionary. This seems broken - at one time they were giving Ak'anon faction. (Previously they WERE on the generic kobold faction, but that's been awhile, most recently they were on the Grikbar Kobold faction). The nutty thing is they don't even assist each other, which makes it an awesome place for newbies to fight - maybe that's what they (SOE) had in mind.

The kobolds are rarely thoroughly camped on Stromm.

As for buffing newbies or only offerning pennies on the dollar for the water, I don't really care for people who do this. I feel they are taking advantage of people who are just starting out, and don't know any better. I mean, even on Stromm, two of those waters shoud pay for a Temperance., and on other servers, some not-to-crappy for-a-little-guy armor item (Merchant mining is a whole different thing; SOMEBODY's gonna grab those waters, and it might as well be you, or me.) But asking those who can least afford it to give up the fruits of their labor, because they don't know to check the prices in the bazaar? That just seems like you're taking advantage of them.

I committed mass kobold murder last night.

Wiped out all the encampments near the newbie zone 3 times, plus the mino slavers near the LFey zone.

Got about 8 waters off the kobolds, 2 though merchants, 1 foraged, and 1 off a mino.

12 isn't bad at all, I would have gotten more, but a guildie came back after 6 months. He donated all his stuff to the guild, now he's in the buff, so we all converged to give him a hand, equipment, and money. (So I went to Runnyeye to get him some gear).

Well, I was hitting the mino's for faction and leaving the kobolds for newbies when they were there. Thing is I hit the gnomish clockworks in one of the Sol's in my younger days, plus being a SK means Ak'anon hate me already.....

As for buffing people... well people have asked and I have offered but Endure Cold doesn't seam to please people
Best one so far... a player called Luky asked me for a Brell's... Did I mention I play a SK

Heh, I'd have to agree that giving dinky buffs in return for drops from low level mobs is kinda wrong.. I meant more along the lines of watching and taking care of them whilst the youngin's kill.

For me (being a cleric), I've sat around in Everfrost healing and offering temp/bof/heals in return for mammoth and wolf meats (i bake), have sat in the entrance to CB healing and buffing for faction(ie tossing a little heal to grab faction when they kill the mob they're fighting), and to de-rail trains, in return for snake eggs in qeynos newbie area while working on baking.

Though, I wouldnt just say 'buffing for <insertitem>", and then park someone and ONLY buff if they give me the item.

I'd be so happy if only they gave the kobolds at least a minor hit.. could sit there and heal, buff, and guarde young gnomlings, whilst making the warriors of ak'anon (my fav city) like me that much better.... but I can see why they took off the faction now. Leh sigh.

As a 62 druid, the buffs I give are well and above good enough for the new folks. I am also kind enough to bind there when I'm on the Steamfont Springwater trail so that I can stop by and make sure the buffs are fine, and maybe give them a DS to help move things along.

If the newbie has been doing well, or has been polite (a rarity these days it seems) I also give them some spell money (normally 20pp) and some old gear from some alts I have...

Not ripping them off as far as I can see....

Think it's better than going in there, agroing every kobold and casting catastrophy and wiping the entire camp out in under 1 minute while a nub gnome /petitions me for being an arse...

Heh, the entire time I was in Steamfont, I was the only person. If someone came by and wanted to hunt the kobold, I'd let them have a camp or two.
