Ok, I was just wondering something and couldn't seem to find any info on it, although I've found info close to it. My question is this -
Tailoring skill at 159
Tailoring recipe ia 165 (ficticious recipe)
I have a Geerlock, so skill is about 166
Can I still gain skill-ups on this recipe even though the Geerlock makes it trivial?
Thanks

Yes.
+skill items, such as Geerloks, affect the minimum skill required for certain items (such as in PoP), but do not have any effect on the ability to gain skill due to trivial levels.

Would beg to differ....
I was brewing tempers (trivial at 135) with my BST whose brewing is 133. With Geerlock in hand, he was getting the "You can no longer advance your skill..." message. Without it, he did not get that message.
Now I will go back and doublecheck my logs - but this is what I remember.

I'm guessing you say the "cannot raise your skill" messages during some intermediate combines, and assumed it was for the final one.
I have made items when raw skill was ONE point below trivial, and had a geerloc, and got the skillup )

If Geerloks affected skillups, then it would be impossible to skill up on ethereal energy items. As it currently stands, right now the ONLY way to gain skill-ups with ethereal energy is with a +skill item, as the required skill level to make the stuff is slightly higher than the current trivial.

No intermediate combines on shadow tempers. 2 Essence of Shadows, 1 Neriak nectar, and one elven blood.
