I am in the process of skilling up Baking right now by MTP's. Which everyone knows requires lots of ingredients.
What is the easiest way people find to transfer items from one toon to another with only 1 account? Is there a system they have? A certain area where to drop items so no one can snatch it while they are gone? I am talking about when transferring lots of items. As in bags.
FYI, I stuck this under General because it applies for transfering any large amount of items, I just used making MTP's as an example.
Thanks. :)

/gu Anyone want to make a quick 25 plat?
/tell friendlyfriend001 Hey , can you come to the bazaar for a minute?
Or If in the serverwide eqtraders channel
/1 Anyone on SERVERNAME wanna help out a fellow crafter?
Those are your only three options. Unless you can drop full bags on the ground.

When I want to trade items I put them in the nearest forge or pottery wheel, and close it.
Then I camp and log in the other character and take them out.
Doesn't work for nodrop items or bags, but works great for most tradeskill stuff.
I've found the back room in certain inns is usually empty and far from any merchants or patrolling guards. So I can drop a bag there and nobody is likely to pick it up. But usually I prefer not to drop things on the ground -- they tend to decay after only a few minutes.

Dropping items on the ground is never a good idea, as someone else could pick them up and walk off, or they could decay before you get back. Ever gone LD switching characters? :x
The best way is to find someone you trust, either a friend or someone in the guild. Sometimes, they may even create a mule for you if you can make the transfer completely at a starting city.

Find someone trustworthy to help, plain and simple. It's too easy to lose items to the street sweepers, or to stray folks who just happen to use the container you've stashed things in. If you're short on friends or guildmates, serverwide.eqtraders is a good place to check for a member of the community to help. (The majority of tradesfolk definitely care about their rep, and aren't going to risk it on doing a bad trade.)
Since my retired bard is a "regular" in the bazaar, selling mana vials, enchanted metals, alchemy potions, etc., etc., some of her regular customers have randomly asked me to pass items from one alt to another. As long as I have space free in bags, and they are willing to come to me, I am fine with that. While they have no clue who the person is behind the alt, they know she's a stable part of bazaar life, and as such, even if they don't recognize the guildname (we've got a very good rep for such a tiny guild), they know she's less likely to wander off with their goodies.
I suspect you'll be able to find someone similar on your server if you take a look around.

Some note if you're going to pick a random person:
Try to pick a high level person. Most of the time, they have nothing to gain by swiping the stuff you're swapping... and they probably have a reputation they've built over the time they've been in the game that they don't want to ruin.
Also, check guild tags. Everyone has a general idea of the guilds to "avoid" on thier server, so watch for those.
Best idea is find a friend, a guildmate, or someone in the "traders" community ( your server's tradeskills channel or the serverwide.tradeskills channel ) to help you.... in that order :)
That being said, I've drop traded LOTS of gear over the years and gotten away with it most of the time. Pick a remote enough spot and you'll be safe from PC's and NPC's alike. You run the risk, though, of two things: 1) you might go LD while swapping chars, and *poof* it will be long gone before you get back... and 2) you might JUST have one of those items in your bag that *poofs* in SECONDS not minutes... ( they're rare... but it happens ) then you'll never know what hit you.
Good luck!

When I have a bag to drop to one of my alts I usually will find a spot in a city that is near water, and then go swimming! Dont drop in deep water, and try to make sure no one is around. NEVER EVER drop something that you dont want to lose just in case the LD monster attacks you.
Best bet is to make friends......

I appreciate all of your replies. :)
Looks like what I am just going to stick with what I am doing. You are right, using friends, guildmembers are the best. And I have thought about that, but I don't want to do that for how often I want to transfer.
If it was something I would transfer maybe once a week or so, then yes. But what I am talking about is being able to transfer multiple times a night. My guild is great and have a lot of really nice people in it, but I just don't want to hassle them that often. I know I wouldn't want to be.
And I don't want to always have to message people in the server.tradeskills channel for the same reason. It is great that they would help me transfer, but also I understand people have better things to do than to be my conduit.
Using someone is definitely the safest way but not the most practical for me. And I don't want to lose items when transferring characters. (Did not know things went *poof* in such a short amount of time). So I think I will just make do what with what I am doing now and again I appreciate everyone's responses. :)

One more tip if you do drop transfers...
If you do drop transfers the best container to use is the Wood Elf Fier'dal Fletching kit.
Its graphic is that of a small brown bowl that lies half in the floor when dropped. Sometimes its hard to see even if your looking for it. It is much better than the "please pick me up and run away" large bag graphic of backpacks and tool boxes.
The cutural fletching kit is 10 slot, 2.0 weight I think. It really blends in well on the Shadow Haven floor. Back before the fletching changes I transfered tens of thousands of pps worth of bow parts between my fletcher and pocket Gnome Tinker with no problems.

If what I'm transferring isn't really worth that much, I'll find a sucleded spot in a zone and do a drop transfer to the other character. If I dont' want it to poof, and can't find someone to help me with a transfer, I use an out of the place tradeskill container like the pottery wheel in Qeynos.

One trick that I used to use to transfer items was to use a coin to test the decay timer. Basically, I would drop a copper piece on the ground and wait for it to decay, so the decay timer restarts. Then I would drop the items I needed to transfer and quickly log in the new char to pick them up. That way I know I have the most time before the items disappeared. Hasn't ever failed me.

One other thing...
Don't do drop transfers in Ak'Anon. The Gnome city has built in clockwork cleaners and as soon as you drop something you will get a message about how something popped up out of the floor and grabbed your item.
The same thing happens if you drop something near an NPC.

I used to do drop transfers in Akanon all the time, you just have to get away from the cleaner paths. I did mine at the top of the first tower by the castle, there's nothing up there.

Some items cannot be picked up when dropped -- such as some of the monk/beastlord h2h weapons, as they don't have any width.
I sometimes have to use a container to hold stuff while I am using the Vale Sewing Kit. I learned my lesson about not placing No Drop items in the loom/forge. Once, however, I used the loom to hold my stuff while I combined Tufts of Dire Wolf Fur. If the combine fails, the items in the loom seem to disappear. They are there, but you have to close and open the container to see them. After combining a bunch of tufts, I left to hunt, and didn't see anything in the container. After a couple hours, I looked in my inventory and noticed a LOT of space. Realizing what happened, I went back to the container. They were all still there. I suspect they are never cleared (although No Drop items poof as soon as you close it).

When this used to be a problem for me, I did it the same way I did most everything else.
Failing friends and guildmates, the kindness of strangers can VERY often be relied upon. I watched an interesting show a while back on TLC or the Discovery channel (can't remember which) that said some scientists have theorized the desire to live up to someone's oppinion (or trust) of you is genetic, but it is only triggered when it is actually invoked by the other person.
In other words, if you drop something and someone finds it they won't have a problem taking it. You didn't explicitly ask them not to. However, if you directly ask someone to hold something for you, they most often will either say no, or be honest.
This is why they theorize shoplifting is such a problem ( implicit trust ) but places that put out jars for merchandise on the sidewalk have very little trouble with theft.
All that to say, what works best is to pick a higher level person in a reputable guild, make it as convenient for them as possible, and let them know all of that as politely as possible in one tell.
/tell OfficerofViatoresNorrathae Excuse me sire, would you please help me transfer one (two/three) bags to my alt, we are both here in Thurgadin/The Bazaar/POK.

I usually use a trade skill container(forge, loom, oven) whatever is handy and have never had a problem. Just do it in a less popular city such as Felwithe(4-5 peeps in there usually) not in bazaar(300-600 people).

Would there be a market for offering a reliable transfer service? If so, how much would one pay?

You would need to have one hell of a good reputation for that to work.
But If you were in one of your servers Very Respectable Guilds, and had a good reputation, I could see people paying for the service.

Here is what I used to do before I had 2 accounts: If its tradeskill items that are fairly cheap buy back price I normally find a secluded merchant that is rarely used and sell what I want to transfer. Then I log in my alt and buy it back. For most items I used to transfer this way I would only lose a gold or two at most on many items and well worth it to be sure it didn't poof on dropping. Just depends on what you are trying to transfer, I still regularly transfer enchanted clay this way when I don't feel like logging in both accounts to do a transfer.
I had to transfer a few times between characters...
If your just talking ingredients for baking supplies, I wouldn't go James Bond on it.
Just drop the bag, switch characters, and pick the bag up.
Only worry about NPC's close by that auto pick up trash.
The only other thing I can suggest if you want to be 'safe' is go to a place where your the only one in the entire zone... tradeskill in Erudin ;).
