Yes folks, it's the cursed Honey Mush Bread thread... that elusive ingredient for a young broodling who's trying to figure out all of the unsolved quests in Cabilis.

Every once and awhile I stop Everlore's
Catfish Sandwich (http://www.everlore.com/quests/default.asp?mode=35&id=125336) Thread.

Not that anyone over there has figured it out yet. :(

Has anyone ever tried database diving for the Honey Mush Bread and/or its (possibly) ingredients?

Even if the recipe is found, the quest may not be doable.

Rumor is that the Sewer Catfish don't even exist, or that the water where they're supposed to be caught is bugged.

I thought that the sewer catfish got fixed a few patches back?

Someone went database diving a while ago and came up with a few things:

And a picture of the item... #12447

In today's patch message (Apr 8 2003):

- Mushroom Bread now looks like bread in inventory rather then a bowl.

Which has nothing to do with this quest, nor the Kunark expansion.

Yep... I got all excited over nothing!

My current theory is that this is not a tradeskill item, but the result of some other quest (which is how some of the other quests work). The question then, is which NPC gives this as a reward and what items are they looking for?

** Quests **

- Added Honey Mush Bread to Cabilis Vendors - This is an item needed for a quest that was unavailable.

No Lucksss finding it.

/bug water vendor - Lybar (West, 290, 531) seems to be missing now!

She is needed for smithing.

Word is it's Klok Bygle in Swamp of No Hope, but I haven't been able to confirm it in-game yet.

Too Bad he wants two of them.
I only had 3 Catfish rotting in the bank and failed on attempts 2 & 3 with a Skill of 32.

Reward should be a foobscale coif if my guess is right. Can you screenshot the text if you make a second? And update magelo with the sandwich if at al possible?

OUCH, FAILED.

At the moment I don't think you can catch sewer catfish.. so.. eww..

Okies, folks, I could really use *exact* names and locs for the vendor(s) selling honey mush bread for the quest writeup.

Also, what's the problem with sewer catfish, and how long has it been going on? (i.e., is it missing from both Cabilis AND Firiona Vie now or something?)

Can't get the guide updated, nor a bug report in on this one without more details ...

"Also, what's the problem with sewer catfish, and how long has it been going on? (i.e., is it missing from both Cabilis AND Firiona Vie now or something?) "

I have some extra fishing info at http://mboards.eqtraders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7575 including some database and recipe updates. Furthermore, the confirmation that Catfish and Minnows are both absent has now extended to: E. Cabilis (400 bait), W. Cabilis (200 bait), FV (300 bait). I'm pretty sure of my conclusions.

Tonight on test server I caught 2 sewer catfish, made up 2 catfish croak sandwiches and handed them to Klok Foob. He just gave them back, saying he didn't need them. Odd since he had just ask for them.

I tried handing them in unstacked, and when that failed, stacked. No luck.

Same thing - just tried handing in the sandwiches - and nothing - he just handed them back.

By the way I made 2 - both successful and trivial at baking 102.

I should have mentioned that the catfish croak sandwiches were trivial at 38 baking skill.

I spent several hours on Test yesterday, and got a skill up to 22 on these. So, trivial is now narrowed to >22 <=38.

I've also found two vendors for honey mush bread. Klok Sargin in LoIO and Klok Bygle in Swamp of No Hope. If you have further vendor info, please post it here or it's not going on the site! :P

Did you try handing them one at a time? Handing him one and seeing if he'll take it, then handing him the second?

Ahah its the 12 steps to fixing an SOE quest!

You'd think that, logically, when you put in the honey mush
bread so the quest would work that you'd:

1) verify you can get the things for the quest, such as the fish.

2) verify that when the sandwich is made the quest works.

But I guess not ;)

If you give him one he says he doesnt need this and returns it. If you give him two seperately in the give window or two stacked in the give window he also returns them as unwanted. As in, the quest is still not working even if you can now get the recipe completed on test where the fishing table is intact. I only had two fish so I couldn't try any other combinations. But 2 should be what he wants since he says he wants two if you /h and then ask about the [key] words.

I hate to say it, and this is going to come out as sounding very negative, but there has always been an "Iksar bias" coming from Verant/SOE. The mush bread isn't the only thing broken or incomplete.

Some tradeskill examples:
Flask of Bloodwater is the only water sold in Cabilis, but it doesn't combine in many (all?) tradeskill combines
Monks and beastlords have never had cultural tailoring to wear
Until LoY, casters had no cultural either
[/list:u]Other quest examples (for starters):
Most LoY quest givers are surrounded by races/classes KoS to Iksar
The 8th necro cap was only recently fixed, and the 9th and 10th were "never implemented"
All classes have extensive progressive quests (well, the ones that work), except Beastlord, that just got a copy of the other races' newbie quest
Half Elf Maiden was finally fixed to put her in her locked room. I guess she'd been treading water for years.
[/list:u]Yes, I know this sounds like a rant and should go in the Primal Scream, but I just wanted to show that I wouldn't expect much to happen to get this quest working. Since Kunark, Cabilis has just become more and more broken.

I could have sworn that Gunthak is Neutral to All?

Unless you mean the Rings in FP/Neriak, or the Gnome in Akanon?

In which case you can get an illusion potion, or a 65 Enchanter to share an illusion. If an Erudite SK/Necro can do it in an Illusion, so Can you.

Water flasks are available in west cabilis on the vendor near the 'pond' with the floating crate in it.

Bloodwater is used in Scale Tempers, which is used for Iksar and Troll (and/or Ogre?) cultural as well as Tae Ew weapons and armor.

As Far as the LoY quests go, many of the quest givers are surrounded by mobs that are KoS to everyone, not just iksars :)

As far as this quest goes though...is it still broken?

The Bloodwater sold in E.Cabilis is used to make Scale tempers for Iksar Cultural Smithing & some Tae Ew Items. There are Regular Water Flasks sold in W.Cabilis by one of the vendors by the water (I know that doesn't narrow it down much ;))

Klok Foob finaly took the sandwiches

The reward is a 7ac Str+1, wis+1, int+1 helm

it is lore magic no drop
size small

the last of the text is as follows
Klok Foob says "Me thanks you very much!! Now me stop da tummy grumbles. You have this. And you takes dis. Foob make special, not sold yet, you test it. It is not toughest, but it take a little bashing just like you. It is called Foobscale!!"
Your faction standing with Cabilis Residents got better.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got better.

Why would an iksar newbie quest reward be usable by Clerics and Paladins? No newbie that isn't an iksar is going to be able to do this quest.

Aandaie

Because obviously this fellow is in reality a paladin in disguise. Who else would seek to trick poor little evil iksars, making them slave with their fishing poles for years to catch a non existant fish, only to get one of the worst helms ever seen?

Snuffy the illusioned dwarf paladin is laughing even as we speak, I tell you!

Those are the same classes able to wear Jasarth Scale incidentally.

Finished this quest today with my bard.
When you hand in the sharpend cutting disk you get 4 thin sliced froglok pieces (stacked). It used to be only 2.

1 honey mushbread
1 thin sliced froglok
1 shrub lettuce
1 sewer catfish
in an oven= Catfish Croak Sandwich

I bet I'm the only non-iksar on the server with one.
too bad I can't model it for you :?

You know, it may not be that impressive... but I'd love to see a full set of Foobscale! :D

I'd wear it. ;)

LOL - try playing a troll for a while then -

* no progressive quests
* no newby quests which give anything better than rawhide and tarnished weapons
* no cultural geer worth mentioning
* no tradeskill supplies till right before we got thrown out of our home city
* no home city (four months and counting now)

LOL - trust me - just play a troll to 30th and then you'll be able to go back to Cab and know just how lucky you are. ;)

Oh, well, if we're talking about tradeskill supplies and stuff you really should take a look at Paineel some time.

It's like it was designed specifically so that you couldn't do anything. Wait...that's not strickly true - you can sharpen and reclaim rusty weapons.

I kept a stack of Shrub Lettuce while seeking the Tome of Pain for Greenmist. This was before the quest was solved.

Grabbed the Honey Mush Bread from Bygle, sat for a few hours and fished up 20 sewer catfish, and went to work for Ephmir.

Now before the patch, the Thin Sliced Froglok meat was LORE. This has changed.

Ephmir will give you a RANDOM number of slices; they stack and are no longer lore obviously. I got between 2 and 4 each time, but I wasn't watching closely.

I obtained 22 with 8 sharpenings of the disk (which is ~about right~ for an expected value of 3.)

Made 18 of the 20 sandwiches (failed 2 @ 143, but we've nailed trivials down) and turned them in.

No significant faction change (still amiably).

At any rate, here's a model shot just because. The helm is about a greater lightstone in terms of shedding light (I didn't include that shot in this post). It's red (just like every other shadowknight helmet out there, I swear) and chainmail.

I took off my vision buffs for this shot; the JPG has been gamma corrected (+60 RGB) to mirror what I see in-game.
