• Why there is no fishermans trophy..

I was thinking about this today. Why.. why is there no tradeskill trophy for fishing.. well.. i just figured it out..

It doesnt cost any money to be a 200+ fisherman. Stacks of Bait and a Fishermans Companion, and your going to be 200 fisherman no matter what.

So is that fair to the other tradeskillers that paid 20-30kpp+ to be tops in there tradeskill? nope..

So.. i suggest this.. make the trivial on normal fishing at 100. Then make us combine things to get us to 252.. so we actually spend some real money.. and then.. i can see us getting a trophy in the future.

Other then that, consider the Fishermans Companion a "bone" from VI because we dont have a trophy.

Actually there is no trophy cause grandmastering is at 201+ and fishing cap is 200

that's a predebunked answer, alchemy only goes to 200, yet has a gm trophy

fishing doesn't really produce a useable good, it recieves them...maybe wording it wrong...but certain other tradeskill recipes require fished components to make their recipes(i.e. cod oil for tailoring, kunzar glue for pottery, and fish for baking/brewing), but in an of it's self it doesn't really make anything(except the blessed fishing pole(rod)?)

Hmm, how about fishing baits that required items to be combined in a tackle box and used for fishing. Granted that it's used only for fishing but so are lot of other sub combines in other trades as well. Components are made in all type of situations, like Dairy Spoon made by smiths but used by bakers. I think there should be a trophy for fishing. Let's see now, how may Blue Diamonds do I have left?

I kinda thought of the fisherman's companion as our tradeskill trophy actually - it summons fishing rods which summon beer - what more could a fisherman ask for?

As for the cost of fishing to 200 being minimal - brewing is cheap as all heck to get to 200+ as well and if you've got the levels and a good supply of foraged items, baking is nearly free to get to 250 also - so cost doesn't really count.

Something that could summon bait would definately be nice - ideally by the stack.

                  On my wish list...

                  Anizok's Bait Device

base prototype
gnomish bolts
static orb
class 6 mana battery
Cork
Spriket[/list:u]Recharged with class 1 mana battery

This device would work the same as an Anizok's gauze press but would summon 20 stacks of Animated Bait. Since the resale price of Animated Bait is so low the recharge cost of a class 1 mana battery would not allow a user to make profit from this device.

This is simple to place into the game.

One new spell - Summon: Animated Bait
One new item - Anizok's Bait Device
NO new graphic -same as other Anizok items
New tradeskill recipe - see above
New tradeskill recipe - recharge same as Anizok's gauze press[/list:u]Now for the good part...

Anizok's Bait Device
Collapsible Toolbox
Fisherman's Companion
stack of class 1 mana battery
nice quite lake[/list:u]What do you think?

Cost...minimal for fishing? The ones you're thinking of don't cost that much either... if you are a farming individual. You can get to 250 with shadowscream (notice I didn't say easily or quickly). Tailoring is also cheap, if you 100% farm too, all the way to 250. Fishing can be expensive, if you go the expensive route ( gutting fish for bones), and the skillups can take FOREVER.. I can do combines for brewing far faster than waiting for the fish button to pop back up. I fish while doing several other things at once, as do many others I'm sure.

                      Fishing takes no time?

I finnaly got to 200 last week and it took me all of 13 months to do it.

Made a blessed fishing rod to celebrate

Ah, but we clearly have the advantage. Fishing is without a doubt the most enjoyable of the tradeskills...

Yes, and Fishing is also the only tradeskill where you're bound to make a profit (unless your fishing rod breaks).

I train ALL of my characters in Fishing (but the ones that can't cast spells rarely do it). As Zyrtryx, I have a Fisherman's Companion but I also carry a collapsable fishing pole or two in case anyone else wants to fish with me, and 2 stacks of either regular or animated bait. (I'd rather sell spiderling silks or transfer them to my Druid, who is a tailor in training) than use them to make lures, and my skill isn't high enough to use a tackle box for other things....yet) I like to fish.

I fish when medding or healing (or both) in an area where I'm not likely to get attacked. Helps pass the time when you've blown all your mana or been knocked down to less than half hit points and no healers are around. My Monk tends to blow 3 out of 4 Mends, and his Bandage Wounds skill is only 20, so I suspect I'll have him fishing a lot when I start using him more often (he's lvl 13 - I quit using him after I heard about the Monk nerfing, and just started using him again).

(And the fact that you can eat the fish without having to do anything to them helps, too)

Now, getting back to the subject - I can sort of see why SOE wouldn't make a Fishing trophy, BUT considering Alchemy has a trophy and it tops out at 200 also (and there are a lot more people who Fish than do Alchemy, obviously) I think SOE should make one. (And I agree we need a device that summons bait)

Just to add my 2 cp

Just to add my 2cp ...I found fishing to be the most enjoyable of the trades I've worked on so far , and its helped me boost some skills ...

used the fish I got to bring Baking to 135 by just making Fish Rolls
brought brewing to 63 on Fish Wine

cost for the 2 ...roughly 20 pp

I also managed to get enough fish to give to a friend to get his baking up to 135

....spent some time Fishing in PoG to get the Planar Oak ...and finally celebrated my 200 with a Blessed Fishing Rod last night
