I'd dearly love it if someone could sift through and make a coherent quest guide from this, as it will likely be a couple weeks before I can find the time for it ...

In between his duties to the city, Taldarius and I spend most of our time in the Planes cleansing evil. Even now I am preparing for battle. Taldarius intends to go further into the Planes than ever before on our next trip and I am working on gathering the special supplies we need. If you are willing to help I may have some use for your skills if you are a master of trades and have traveled in the Planes.'

    [Fri Nov 15 21:17:22 2002] Aid Grimel says 'Thank you for offering to help Bakara. Take this breastplate and clean it with a diluted acid wash to get all of the debris out of it. Brew the wash by combining acid and a three celestial essence's. Once the armor is cleaned, coat it with hurricane temper. Finally add two black diamonds of nightmare to the breastplate. This should provide adequate protection for our next journey.'

    Authors note: Acid wash trivials at 151. I completed all stages of this, without failures (250 Smith) and handed the final product in (A BP with 22AC and no stats).

    [Fri Nov 15 21:17:30 2002] Aid Grimel smiles. 'What a wonderful job! Councilman Taldarius shall wear this on our next adventure, I am sure he will find it more protective than his old one. Take this signet as a token of my gratitude. If you are not too busy I have another task, do you have any brewing skill?'

    I recieved a POS trinket, AC2 +2 to some stats and as you can see, the ability to furthur my quest should I decide to GM Brewing. It's unknown at this time if you can start with ANY skill or if smithing is it.

    It's of note that I have the following soulmarks completed:

    TT, Bertox, MM, Saryn, TZ & VZ.

    From Khoren, regarding flags needed to get the start of the quest:

    Bertox is enough.

    I do NOT have TT, MM, Saryn, VZ, or TZ. I got Bertox tonight after we killed him, and he gave me the BP. Until I got Bertox, I could not do it. And this is the only flag I've gotten since I tried last.

    So now we know...

    Step 1 is doable as a grandmaster smith that has the following:
    Storms/Valor (Mavuin)
    NightmareB Access (Thelin)
    CoD (Grummus)
    Bertoxx Key (Carprin)
    Bertoxxulous
    Halls of Honor (Aerin'Dar)
    Bastion of Thunder (Storm Giants)
    Tactics (Manaetic Behemoth)

    Notably I do NOT have Terris Thule (Torment Access), HoH Trials (HoHB access), Mithaniel Marr, Saryrn, Agnarr, TZ, or VZ. Naturally, I have no idea which of the above flags are not necessary for step one, except that of that list Bertoxx is definitely the most important because until I got that one, the rest weren't good enough. And it is, of course, possible that some other flag besides Bertoxx would have given access to Step 1 as well, but I'll never be able to figure that out for myself.

    Step 2 is doable as a grandmaster brewer, but requires something not listed in the flags above.

    224 unmodified brewing allowed me to get the quest whereas 218 + geerlok didn't. Completed it. Minor upgrade to earring and told me to work on my jewelcraft skills for next part.

    He didn't give the quest until I had 224 unmodified brewing. He could have been looking for a minimum of 220 unmodified (no geerlok equipped), but he refused to give the quest with 218 + Geerlok.

    He gives you a No Drop 4-slot container (Brew Barrel) and some fermenting powder. You'll need to ask him again several times for more powder since you'll need a minimum of 3 to complete the quest. You make Twice Brewed Contitutionals from combining 2 Kaladim Constitutionals, some Purified Water (2 Water Flasks + Celestial Essence) and the Fermenting Powder.

    I got a skill gain to 225 making the third Twice Brewed Constitutional. So the Trivial is 225 or higher.

    The Twice Brewed Constitutional has the same stats as a regular Kaladim Constitutional, but No Drop.

    Combine 3 Twice Brewed Constitutionals and the Leather Signet from the Smithing Quest in the Brew Barrel (not consumed!) to recieve a Portable Drink (WT 10.00 No Drop, no real stats). Give Aide Grimel the Portable Drink and the Brew Barrel to recieve the Clay Signet.

    Various key phrases for other steps

    The JC Keyphrase is: "I would like to put my jewel craft skills to the test." Unfortunately, although I have the skill, I am not eligible to do the next phase yet. The only flags I know of that I am lacking up to Sol Ro access are Saryrn, RZ, and Agnarr.

    I was playing around with him and I stumbled onto the phrase needed for the tailoring part: "I am skilled with a needle" resulted in him insulting my tailoring skills. Someone with a decent tailorish should try talking to him.

    Aid Grimel says 'My hand was crushed when I used it to deflect a blow from a War Boar that was headed towards Taldarius's back. For some time afterwards my hand was crippled but Brell saw to it I regained full use of it. The ring I used to wear was damaged beyond repair and my hand was never steady enough to etch a new one. If you would make me a new one by combing a mounted blue diamond, the etching dust and etching tools in a jewelry kit. Then take the faceted gem and combine it with a bar of pure enchanted velium and my signet. I have no idea how the pure bars are made. You may want to seek the help of the ice dwarves.'

Pure enchanted velium bars are made by combing three enchanted velium bars in a forge along with a coldain velium temper, pure water and a Coldain smithy hammer. Tis quite expensive but it enables the crafter to obtain pure working materials.'

      /me takes a crack at it. :shock:

      Aid Grimel's Tradeskill Quests.

      After Hailing Aid Grimel, he will mention that he needs someone willing to help him who is a master of trades AND has travelled the planes. In other words, you will need to meet a certain minimum skill level (ignoring any tradeskill improving devices like the various Geerlok tools) in a tradeskill AND have been flagged for a certain plane or two for each tradeskill quest he gives you. If you do not have the appropriate planar flag yet, he will reply to you with
      Aid Grimel says 'I am sorry but one who has such limited knowledge of the Planes would not be able to assist me.'
      . If your skill does not meet the requirement, he will insult your ability in the skill. It is unknown which response has priority.

      This assumes that all combines are done in either a Planar kit of some sort (i.e. Planar Fletching Kit, Planar Sewing Kit, etc) or in a stationary container IN the Plane of Knowledge.

      Part 1: Smithing.

      Grimel will hand you a breastplate, ask that you wash it, and then coat with a temper and add two Black Diamonds of Nightmares to it.

      Aid Grimel says 'I bet you could make a wicked brew! However I am forced to drink a refreshing drink while out adventuring. I do have this powder that will give the best drinks quite a bite though. Mix the powder in with two Kaladim Constitutionals and a flask of pure water. If you need more dust just ask for it! Put three twice brewed constitutionals and the signet in this drink barrel. As hard as drink barrels are to get these days, you need to return it to me along with the drink you create with it'
      (Aside: And yes, you CAN combine normal brewing combines in it! Only up to 4 slots though.)

      Turn in the Portable Drink and Portable Brew Barrel to receive the Clay Signet.

After combining, you will get a rather tempting Velium Blue Diamond Ring with Enduring Breath on it to hand in--and NOT have returned--for a Wooden Signet and some experience.

Be careful though, because once the armor is engraved you cannot remove it and it will be useless to the Dain. There is no need to return the tools, Talem recently made me a new sturdy set.       Now Grimel will give you an urn pattern and ask you to make a Sacred Urn and fill it up with Sacred Water--to replace one that was destroyed in the Plane of War--and to cap it with your signet from the Jewelcrafting part of the quest. Pretty straightforward. After making the, start heading over to the Plane of Valor and camping "the knights in the tents in Valor" as Khoren puts it for Sacred Water. After filling up the Urn with Water and your signet, combine for the Filled Sacred Urn and turn it in for the REALLY promising Metal Signet.

      You say, 'I am ready to use some clay.'
      Aid Grimel says 'On our last tome gathering expedition a stray arrow in the Plane of War struck our urn filled with sacred water. It was quite a waste of sacred water! Three large enchanted blocks of clay, three lacquered opals, a vial of purified mana, a ceramic lining, sculpting tools and the urn pattern should make an unfired urn. The urn is so large you will need to fire it with three divine crystalline glazes. Once you have the urn it needs to be filled with three sacred waters and the signet as a cap.'

      After the grueling work of finding different components, the item Grimel wants you to make in Tailoring...is surprisingly simple. All it is essentially is a Robe of Eternal Fire with two extra, (relatively) easy to get components: A Vial of Purified Mana and your previous Signet.

      Aid Grimel says 'I appreciate the help Demorgoth. I need a new tunic made for Councilman Taldarius. Last trip through the Plane of Disease, one of those flies spit mucus on him and it dripped through his armor seams! The result was a gooey mess that ate away all the leather underneath. It was a blessing he was wearing something under all that metal! Combine three firesilk swatches, a vial of purified mana, an emblem of fire, a firestrand curing agent, a tunic pattern and the signet. Bring it to me when you have completed it.'

      Aid Grimel says 'When we adventure in the Planes there is only one meal that keeps us in top fighting shape. It is called a Bristlebane's Party Platter. Unfortunately the platter is awkward and not easy to adventure with so you need to place them in this satchel. I know not how to make the Platter, a rather nice female Halfling cleric always used to deliver them to us but I heard she was crushed by a Regrua while hunting for a rare component in the Plane of Water. Brell bless her soul! Combine three of the platters and the signet inside the satchel.'

                    I've a question, trying to make the pure bar of velium, 3 enchanted bars+coldain temper+purified water+velium smithing hammer=DNC

                      Yes, there is a Coldain Smithy Hammer. Tain Hammerfrost provides it in Eastern Wastes once you save him from some Frost Giants.

                          Okay snaged the Coldain Smithing Hammer from Tain(should specify that for idiots like me), failed first attempt at Purified Bar, second attempt yielded
                          Pure Enchanted Velium Bar
                          Magic Item Weight 0.3 Size Small All/All NOT TRIVIAL at 225 smithing

                            Okay just asked Aid Grimmel for the JC portion of the quest, he says I am skilled but lack the knowledge he requires(meaning insufficient flags), so the flag required for the JC portion is NOT Terris, Marr, Agnarr, Tallon, Vallon or any of the sub flags under them, I'm just missing Bertox and Saryrn of the flags before Rallos so the flag required is either Rallos himself or you need Bertox and/or Saryrn to get this part.
