  • Heavy Clay from Gorge of King Xorbb

What's the drop rates on Heavy Clay from Xorbb? I am thinking of making crucibles - but not firing them - from 222 to 236. With a level 58 pet and a 61 shaman, what kind of drop rates should I expect?

    Should I bother?

Drop rate isn't great, isn't horrible.

Not sure if it is high enough to skill up on. Maybe if you aggroed the zone, and let your pet chew them up. =)

Be careful of the evil eyes, however. They charm, and it sucks having your pet attacking you.

Hmm, I didn't think of this route. Trying to plan how to move on after I get through with *shudder* opal steins. The evil eyes are hardly a problem after 36, I used to hunt them for money quite often. If I remember right, and I could be wrong as it's been a couple of months since I was there, but it seemed like every 10th mudball dropped the clay. If only I knew then I would need it, I wouldn't have sold it to a vendor.

Before the bazaar came out, I did Star Ruby steins from 190-250, because they had a large selling value of about 1k each and profit kept me going.

Still though, if you success only a few times, it doesnt cost much to take the star ruby route

I did a lot of skilling up in pottery on unfired crucibles on Lanys. Expect to find a lot of regular clay blocks of various sizes on the muddites. If I recall, I used to loot up to a stack of heavy clay in a few hours there (sorry a few may be two, or possibly four... I got kind of manic there!). Elders drop more of all types than minors, but just run around and around and around and slaughter them all, including the occasional mino who agros on you in spite of your level. An unforseen result of all my heavy clay mining was excellent faction with both goblin tribes in Runnyeye.

            My Path

After a few stacks of Star Ruby Steins, I gave up and just did crucibles. Took me time to collect all the clay, but I was running low on cash so I took the cheap way out. Crucibles took me to 242, which is good enough with my GM trophy.

I get about 1 stack in 2-3 hours when I make huge trains and AE them. This zone seems to always be empty on my server making AE'ing it easy.

Always check the vendors in EK, I usually can find a stack or so by mining the vendors all through the zone.

I got about a stack every 2 - 3 hours, with Fyste running insanely through the Gorge killing anything that moves ( in case Minos are PH for Muddites, I never did figure that out ). One loop around, starting at Runney Eye, stop in and kill the Evil Eyes, jog back to Runney Eye, kill everything along the way, and when I get back repops have already started. Just keep doing that endlessly...

I was going to do the same thing, skillup on unfired crucibles. I just couldn't handle the time it takes to get the clay.

Elders do drop more, mostly because they just drop MORE. They can drop up to 6 items, seems to be about the same chances as Minors to have Heavy Clay... but you have 6 chances instead of 2. Also, kill the goblin PH to the left as you come out of of Runny Eye. He's a PH for the Muddite Librarian ( or something ) that drops a quest piece and seems to be on the same table as Elders for clay / ore drops.

And if you see the Goblin Alchemist up, make SURE you tell a young Monk... I can't tell you how many hours I spent camping him for Treant Fists ( back in the day ).

EDIT: Another nice thing is the Bazaar... I've noticed Heavy Clay showing up alot there lately. Dunno what the prices are, but it might save you a LOT of time

                      Hmmm

I think I might try this... it seems to be much easier than ruby stiens with more of a time element than a money one. Thanks for the idea

                        Skill up rate on crucibles?

What skill up rates do you get with crucibles? I have tried a stack of those with skill 203, had 20 successful combines but no skill ups. Of course this was after patch and I have not seen a skill up since then anyway...

how much hp do they have?

just wondering, what level are these guys and about how many hp do they have? i wanna know because if it is kinda low, then i could ae them solo with my level 50 cleric D

If they are to high level/hp for me to ae, then i think it would be a lot easier to just go the expensive route, because in the amount of time it would take me to get a reasonable amount of them, i could of just made enough money in seb for the star ruby steins, and get exp. also

check out www.eqatlas.com or www.eqmaps.com for more data... but I think you should be able to solo them. They went down really fast as I remember.

As a shammy who did just this

Well, first I must say that long, long ago, I hunted here to get clay to start my pottery endeavors. So, I am still afraid of the evil eyes.

                              But anyway.

There are two rare drops on muddites.
                              Heavy clay and Muddite Mud.

So the drop rate is about 1 in 10.

Now your pet can easily chew through these, the evil eyes, minotaurs... everything. But shammies just take to long to kill on their own. And to further complicate things, the pathing is horrendous.

So here is what I did, and since I usually had the entire place all to myself it was ok. Tell doggy to gaurd here just in front of the rock at the bottom of the path from East Karana. Then run down the middle path and tag everything so that it chases you. don't get to far ahead or you will lose them all. At the T, turn right (or left the next time through) and circle back around to your doggy. Stand there with your doggy and descimate the lot. loot. Be sure to keep regen up, else you might not make it through a fight with 12 things beating on you.

For tagging, I made myself a white ceramic band.
The muddites are slow, so often hit them again, to make sure they
                              where keeping up.

Lastly, I did this at 44. And my biggest nuke could almost take out one of the roaming eyes.

Also, you get every size of clay and ore. So you might want to think
about what to do with all of them. I collected the pieces of ore for my
alt's to get there smithing out of the basement. ^_^

                              See you at 250
