I HATED EZboards and their extortionist activities. Pay through the nose or see CRAP adds with annoying sounds that drive you crazy! Extort your guildmates and friends! Pay for an EZBOARD membership and THEN pay for the EZBOARDs you love themselves or face loosing them!

Yayyyyy for Eqtraders going to this board! This is the board style that the Shaman's Crucible has been using, and it's wonderful. No problems with html in the signature. Easy to ignore troublesome users. Messaging between users on the board. Easy to see at a glance which groups have new posts - no clicking on smithing, on pottery, on brewing just to see if any one of them has a new post! Now I can see at a glance which areas has been active since my last visit!

YAYYYY for DenMom! I love it!

    DEATH TO EZBOARDS!

I may be wrong in this, but doesn't the Shaman's Crubicle use Vbullten, an enhanced version of phpbb?

I'm not sure what exactly they use, but these two look identical. Same look and feel, same icons, same    ops: :P

      same user setup as well.

Not sure what is "enhanced" about the crucible. Other than a great Moderator, but EQTraders has that too

Just checked, The Crubicle does indeed use VBulliten, as well as The Ranger's Glade, and Shadowknight.org. I'm not sure what is enchanced about it, been awhile since I read up about it. Far as I can tell they are similar. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me will explain the differences.

Heh, exactly the opposite of my post. Of course, I've been an ezboard supporter since the program first started, and know how to do all the stuff you ranted that ezboard can't do (hint: "Mark forum read"), and you apparently know how to do all the stuff I can't do with phpbb (like sort new posts out from old)...

I've always found EZboard to generate a sort of low-level irritation for me as well. Kinda like having a housefly that buzzes your ear every 5 minutes or something.

Ah well, new forums are spiffy, and that's what counts. Cool smiley things too 8)

Anytime a community site agrees to pay the outrageous costs that EZBoard BELIEVES they can get away with, we reinforce that belief.

So, I for one would like to cheer and promote DenMom's move away from EzBoard with as much enthusiasm and gusto as possible.

Considering the sheer amount of information that exists on the other boards... it was a gutsy move.

              Much love DenMom.

DenMom, I have to say I like this a lot better.

Thanks for all your hard work, and the great community you shepherd.

I have to say that after reading Woody's comments both here and on his site, I really squirmed about having to make today's front page update. However, I've tried very hard to present both sides of the coin when posting around here, so I had to speak up at least a bit with regards to EZBoards.

                  First off, Woody, your moral support has and does mean a lot to me, and while I won't *quite* give you the custom title you requested a few months ago, hopefully you'll find the compromise acceptable. {impgrin}

That having been said, while I'm not happy with the increasing costs of EZBoard gold communities, I feel it necessary to present some of the things folks may overlook.

When EZBoards came on the scene, they provided MANY EQ communities with a free home, quick setup, and easy to run boards. As demand grew, and the bottom dropped out of the internet advertising market, I was one of the folks that supported their business decision to create gold community status. After all, hosting and support DO cost money, and we EQ'ers tend to be a vocal lot. EZBoards are likely responsible for keeping many communities "alive", when they didn't have enough community support to afford to host their own boards. Yes, now there are more options, such as Mazevo, etc., but when this all started, EZBoards was the most convenient.

Unfortunately, now the cost of that "convenience" is too high, and while it's eating much more of my time, at least in the short run, I've got a hubby with enough technical savvy to get our new boards up and running in short order, hosted through our current hosting provider, for a significanlty lower cost.

{shrug} I guess I'm just less ... emotional ... about EZBoards and their fees. It's their business decision what price they put on the services and conveniences provided by their boards. (And like any other business, they're interested in making a profit, whether from ads or community fees.) It's the decision of the various communities whether they want to deal with a) popup ads, b) paying to be ad free and convenient, or c) doing the extra grunt work to find and implement a cheaper solution. We chose c)

However, many communities don't have the same luxury that this community has. At least for the time being, my hubby and I are willing to pay up front for all expenses and "hope" that the community will donate enough to cover costs. Many other communities don't have that luxury, or those resources ... or the luxury of opening up an email that bluntly offers $10,000 for ownership of our site and simply laugh and laugh and laugh.

$10,000 for THIS site?!?!?! I'm trying hard to imagine how much money the one whom I suspect of making that offer managed to raise that. Is that place really that popular?

Even I, who lacks enough principles, wouldn't sell this site for a thousand times that. It is home and family.

I agree with both Woody and Denmom.

EZBoards is a place for profit and started out giving great things to EQ.

I feel like, they have now gone to the point of price gouging. I worked for an Internet Service Provider for 3 1/2 years. I still work in the industry and see Bandwidth and Server cost on a regular basis. The prices they want to charge for this community were more than 4 times the amount you should have been paying.

                        A mark-up for a profit... yes? A 4 times mark-up? That's just gouging, plain and simple.

If you ever need help with this board, let me know. I set-up and run Clan X's board and would be more than happy to give any pointers or tips.

                          /hug PHP! /Cheer DenMother!

I love the new boards and happy that a solution presented itself. While I appreciate EZ Board's stance on billing in a market that stopped feeding itself with advertisements, I holistically believe in getting what you pay for. While EZ Board's prices continued to soar (to some extent unnecessarily), their performance continued to drop which as a user bothered me considerably. Even at Gold Status, EZ Board service interruptions, slow loading times, and general "broken-ness" was unacceptable for the accompanying pricetag imho.

I know some people don't like change. I, myself struggle with it from time to time but this is a great turn of events and support the move. Give it a few weeks, everyone will adjust

No offence Denmom and House Ogre, but who in their right mind would WANT EQTraders.com? They'd have to deal with us ranting, crazed, psycotic, and insane people. Plus having to keep up with all the changes that come out with patches. Then when EQ2 comes out they'd have to deal with that too. Someone was either crazier (don't hurt me) than you or thought they could charge for us to come here.

Thanks again from all of us for keeping the community add free and mostly free of recipe bugs.
